Kicking things off

Hey there anyone reading this, I'm Enrique, an IS101 (Introduction to Information Systems) student currently in  college majoring in cyber security. This blog is unfortunately a required assignment throughout the semester for this class, so have fun listening to random ramblings involving some kind of business level communications for Microsoft Office.

1st Impressions. So far ok. I've taken this class once before, dropped it for personal reasons, but still got some kind of a grasp of the basics. I kinda wish the formatting for this one were a little more straightforward but hopefully I get into the groove of things soon enough. Just hoping to do my best in the coming months and hopefully leave this class with that certification.

1.4.2 security risks This node in the book goes over common security practices, such as windows firewall and various kinds of anti-virus. I know some of the rest of the nodes in 1.4 also go over other security risks such as social engineering attacks and things of the like. This is something I deal with regularly in my current field of study. It was touched on briefly in my Network+ course, as well as during my high school education in my CyberSec classes. Basic internet safety is also just something I passively taught myself, looking things up online and trying to keep my digital footprint small.

  1. Random ramblings have their values: it give visitors (e.g. future employers) a glimpse into your natural self aside from a canned/packaged profile. Sometimes this is more valuable than any polished profile. Also, if you have any mis-step in etiquette, visitors are more likely to give it less weight given your student status :-)

You have been passively teaching yourself basic internet safety and keeping your digital footprint small? Excellent!

Doesn't matter what may have happened with your prior attempt with IS101 with another instructor. Once you get into the groove of things, you will succeed in IS101-3205, Fall 2025 ^_^

  2. Hello Enrique! It's nice to see you blogging with the rest of the class. I thought it was odd having to blog, let alone create a blogger account, but hey, here we are, both of us making it happen. Also, it is cool seeing you retake this class, and this time around, I'm rooting for you to pass and get that certificate. Once you get the ball rolling, this class isn’t too hard just need to keep up with assignments, discussions, and LabSim. Good luck, you got this!

  3. Hey Enrique,

Cybersecurity is an awesome field, and it sounds like you’ve already got a solid foundation! Hopefully, IS101 helps reinforce what you already know while adding new skills along the way.

Security risks are a crucial topic, and it’s great that you’ve been exposed to them through Network+ and your Cyber Security classes. Keeping your digital footprint small and staying informed on threats is a smart move. Wishing you success in the class—and that certification!

  4. Hey Enrique! I get the feeling about required assignments, but at least you can make it your own. Cybersecurity is a great field, and it’s awesome you already have experience. IS101 can feel like a lot at first, but once you get into the flow, it’s manageable. Hope you get that certification—sounds like a solid goal!

  5. Hey Enrique,

I also agree that I was totally NOT expecting to have to create a blog and do this type of stuff for this class, so it's very interesting aspect. I think that you'll get back into the grove of things and be very successful in this class. Stay positive!

  9. Hey there Enrique! That’s great to hear that you’re on your way towards earning your degree in cybersecurity. I’m currently taking a Network+ course and looking forward to learning more about security risks. It took some adjustments and time to get comfortable with the work and tasks in IS101, but I trust that you’ll find your own methods to keep up and succeed in earning your certification!

  12. Hi Enrique!

Kuddos to you for choosing Cybersecurity! I took a course once in high school, and even though I'm aware of the basic do's and don'ts, it was quite a blur. Hopefully you will be able to give us some more tips and tricks for us! I look forward to your blogs!

  14. Cyber security is a growing great field and such a rapidly expanding one at that. Glad to see you're coming back and tackling this class again, hopefully in a better state of mind this time. Security risks really are a big aspect of everyday life now since we conduct almost everything via electronics.

  15. Hello Enrique, being self-taught in the basics of internet safety is fascinating. Basic internet safety is something that should be required when using the internet.
Cybersecurity is a field that has caught my attention recently because of its boom in any industry.

  16. Hi Enrique, you will get that certification, just focus and do a little work daily so it doesn’t add up, how I have in the past when I got sick. We must pass this class in order to get closer to our end goal, you got this!

  18. Hi Enrique! working in cybersecurity sounds like a really cool thing, especially if it's a subject that you taught yourself, computers are hard so I have a lot of respect to you for knowing a lot and wanting to work in it in the future too!
